
Our History
The proposed Kabarnet University College will take over the Moi Teachers Training College Baringo which was established in 1991 as a public primary teachers’ training college. The construction of the premises was funded by the World Bank. In May 2021 the College was upgraded from a P1 to a Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) Training College.
The college is a public tertiary institution managed by the Ministry of Education (MOE). The college is managed by a Board of Management (BOM) appointed in line with the Basic Education Act of 2013.
At inception in 1991 the College received a first batch of 220 teacher trainees. By 2019 the College had a population of 720 fulltime students, 645 part-time school-based students and 137 ECDE students. The college has graduated 12,000 P1 teachers since its inception. After it was converted to a Diploma awarding college the first cohort is yet to graduate.
In May 2021, the Competence Based Curriculum for prospective teachers was introduced at Moi Teachers College, Baringo with an initial intake of 176 fulltime teacher trainees (73 for DPTE and 103 for DECTE) and 292 P1 upgrading students.
Currently, the college has a workforce of 23 teaching staff and 48 support staff. The college is governed by a Board of Management constituted as per the Basic Education Act of 2013 and the College Management headed by the Principal.
